The el-cheapo trickle charger explicitly states that it can only be connected to batteries that are disconnected from the car, so I use it to maintain spare batteries in my garage. I don't think it has the capacity to charge up a severely discharged battery, for example. However, I made a custom charging harness connected directly to my Supra's battery terminals, and I plug the BatteryMinder into it when the car stays in the garage. It has NEVER caused any problems whatsoever in the last 7~8 years for me. I do believe somebody (Lance?) has mentioned that the de-sulfation technology used in these things have been tested by the military and proven to work, and I tend to believe Lance even if I take the marketing pitches with grains of salt. As for the Supra fire...it's tragic beyond imagination, but I still don't understand--how can a properly-designed battery charger possibly cause it? I know my BatteryMinder has short-circuit/reverse polarity protection, meaning it stops delivering current if there's a short in the car's 12V electrical system, or if you plugged it in the wrong way. Take my opinion for what it's worth, but I've been happy with the BatteryMinder--I happily pay $40 for its convenience over the alternatives. :) Warren 93.5 6-speed hardtop John Cribb wrote: > Yikes!
