[mkiv] Serpentine Tensioner

Folks, the serpentine tensioner I was talking about and having all the trouble with, is the big, external one. Having removed the battery and attached a wrench to the centre bolt of the wheel, I can depress the thing only so far and it doesn't seem to give me enough slack to fit the new belt back on.

Is there a trick to this, short of pulling out the radiator?
