Same tires, same brand, same size, installed about 4,000 miles ago.
BF Goodrich KD's all the way around, 295/35-18 rears iirc...

Do your rear tires match? Running different treads, or especially different
width/aspect ratio will feel very strange.

Subject: [mkiv] RWD Supra Torque steer???
Hey y'all...
This is my 2nd MkIV-TT. I've had this one about a year now.
Suddenly I've got what feels like torque steer whenever I get agressive on
the gas pedal.
It kicks out mildly to the right, I correct it with mild steering, then it
straightens up, kicks out to the left about the same amount, again I correct
with steering, then it straightens out fine.
Thing is, the tires are NOT breaking free at all!!!
It's a 6-Speed with 72,000 miles on it running stock twins in TTC mode
with no boost controller so there's tons of lag with the boost finally
rolling on smooth but heavy.
Afaik it's the stock diff but it's possible that it's the TRD diff, I
really don't know.
I don't ever remember this happening until immediately after we took it to
the drag strip recently. Prior to that it just went straight when I got on
the gas.
I've had a boost controller on the car before and I've also had a 19#
wastegate spring on it (previous owner did it, I removed it) so I know what
it feels like to get the Supra sideways or kick out even mildly and it was
tons of fun to play around with for a few weeks but I prefer a bit of lag
with solid traction to spinning 'em while sideways in every gear.
This feels exactly like a front wheel drive car's torque steer, like my
beater Camry with its' fubar suspension but coming from the ass end of the
Supra, which I don't like.
I've been putting it for a few weeks but I went to pass someone in a hurry
on a 2-lane road with oncoming traffic and deep ditches and it wasn't easy
to keep it where I wanted it the moment the boost started coming on. It
used to be smooth and easy to drive, now it's not.
No, I haven't checked the diff fluid and I have no idea when it was last
changed, but it will be replaced before TX2K8. I also need to double-check
tire pressures because we played with them at the track. It's on KYB Struts,
Eibach springs, and TRD Big-Ass sways. The original owner pushed the car
hard in street races for years but maintained it very well.
Could alignment cause something like this? Alignment is on my to-do list
as well regardless.
Has anyone else ever experienced torque steer in a RWD Supra?
Any ideas what things I should check first?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Thomas
