[mkiv] Brake problem

Hi folks

I was doing a backyard front disc and pad changeover - jap spec/NA brakes - and had one of the anti-squeal springs fly off and into the bush. Can't find the damn thing. My question is can I drive safely with just one spring? Also, is there an easy way to fit these? I have unbolted the calliper and its a dog to fit both springs in place and then try to keep them there whilst fitting the pads back in..

Any help much appreciated.
