[mkiv] hood insulation pad

My car was vandelized and I need to replace the hood. What is the general
concesus out there guys, re-install the insulation pad or not? 
Also, a while back there was a thread about rear hatch rust. Mine has it in
the same spot. Toyota wants to replace the hatch. They say that metal cannot
be welded back in there without rusting again and bla bla  bla. I know I can
repair the little rust spot myself with my mig or tig, but the glass removal
is another story. The glass people I have spoken with will not guaranty that
they will not break the glass. Any ideas or anyone else take care of this
problem? Is there a source for used hatches and/or hoods?
